Spay/Neuter Procedure
Spaying and neutering dogs and cats can reduce sexual behaviors, prevent unwanted behaviors, and lower the risk of infection and disease. Our veterinarians are highly trained in performing spay and neuter procedures, ensuring that your companion will be closely monitored, safe, and comfortable throughout the entire procedure and recovery process.
Neutering involves the surgical removal of the testicles, which helps reduce aggressive behavior, decreases the urge to roam, and prevents testicular cancer and prostate disease. Prior to surgery, we conduct a physical exam and blood tests to ensure your pet’s safety during the procedure. Recovery is usually straightforward, with minimal aftercare required. Timing of neuter surgeries can be an individualized decision, and our team will discuss the right timing for your pet with you.
Spaying involves the surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus to prevent heat cycles and the possibility of pregnancy. This procedure is typically performed between 4-6 months of age, ideally before the first heat cycle. However, we understand that some breeds and lifestyles may require a later spay procedure, and we can accommodate that as well. In addition to preventing heat and pregnancy, spaying eliminates the risk of uterine infections and ovarian/uterine tumors, and it can reduce the risk of malignant breast cancer by 90% if done before the first heat. We will also perform a physical exam and blood tests prior to surgery to ensure your pet’s safety during the procedure and anesthesia.
