Puppy Care

We love puppies at Epic Tails Veterinary Clinic, and even more, we enjoy providing them with the essential care they need to start their lives off on the right paw.

We encourage all new puppy owners to schedule an initial appointment at Epic Tails Veterinary Clinic for several important reasons. First, we’ll perform a comprehensive nose-to-tail physical exam to establish a health baseline and identify any hidden issues that can be addressed early on.

Additionally, we’ll recommend a tailored vaccination schedule based on your puppy’s age, vaccination history, and lifestyle. Some of the vaccinations we recommend for puppies include (but are not limited to):
  • Distemper Hepatitis
  • Parvovirus
  • Rabies
  • Bordetella
During your puppy's first exam, we may also recommend routine tests such as a heartworm exam and fecal analysis to ensure they’re free from parasites and to gain a clearer picture of their overall health.

Kitten Care

Is there anything more precious than looking into the big, beautiful eyes of a lovable little kitten you’ve just brought home? How about the peace of mind that comes from knowing your kitten is healthy and properly vaccinated?

At Epic Tails Veterinary Clinic, we strongly advocate for early wellness exams for kittens. These exams allow us to conduct a thorough physical examination, recommend a vaccination schedule, and perform routine tests to ensure your kitten is developing properly.

If you have any questions about the recommended vaccinations and tests for your pet, feel free to speak with your vet, who will be happy to answer all your questions before moving forward. After all, caring for your new kitten is a team effort between our veterinary clinic and you as their owner.

Spay/Neuter Procedure

Spaying and neutering dogs and cats can reduce sexual behaviors, prevent unwanted behaviors, and lower the risk of infection and disease. Our veterinarians are highly trained in performing spay and neuter procedures, ensuring that your companion will be closely monitored, safe, and comfortable throughout the entire procedure and recovery process.

Neutering involves the surgical removal of the testicles, which helps reduce aggressive behavior, decreases the urge to roam, and prevents testicular cancer and prostate disease. Prior to surgery, we conduct a physical exam and blood tests to ensure your pet’s safety during the procedure. Recovery is usually straightforward, with minimal aftercare required. Timing of neuter surgeries can be an individualized decision, and our team will discuss the right timing for your pet with you.

Spaying involves the surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus to prevent heat cycles and the possibility of pregnancy. This procedure is typically performed between 4-6 months of age, ideally before the first heat cycle. However, we understand that some breeds and lifestyles may require a later spay procedure, and we can accommodate that as well. In addition to preventing heat and pregnancy, spaying eliminates the risk of uterine infections and ovarian/uterine tumors, and it can reduce the risk of malignant breast cancer by 90% if done before the first heat. We will also perform a physical exam and blood tests prior to surgery to ensure your pet’s safety during the procedure and anesthesia.

Microchipping

Microchipping is a quick, painless procedure that offers lifelong protection and identification for your pet. The process is similar to a routine vaccination and involves inserting a small chip just beneath the skin between the shoulder blades. Unlike a collar, a microchip cannot fall off, be lost, altered, or removed intentionally, ensuring your pet's identification remains secure.
